About Relaxation

Susanna teaches a series of workshops which give teenagers and students the chance to experience deep relaxation as a helpful way to cope with exams.

Taking exams is one of the most stressful things in life. But by spending 5 minutes a day in deep relaxation one can become more focused, help over come the negative effects of stress, and perform to one’s potential on the big day.

We all know we need to relax, but few of us really know how. Often we turn to the television and slump down in the hope of letting go of our worries. Others turn to alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs. Some people turn for help to the medical profession and try anti-depressants.

Deep relaxation

Deep relaxation is a simple technique with no negative side affects and lots of positive ones! It is easy to learn and easy to use. But there are few places to learn!

Relaxation workshops

Workshops will be adapted to suit the age and size of the group and the time available.
Topics covered could include the following:

  • Techniques of deep relaxation
  • Participants’ experiences of stress
  • Differentiating between physical, mental and emotional responses to stress.
  • The difference between ‘acute’ and ‘chronic’ stress.
  • Theory of the ‘flight and fight’ response and the chemical reactions within the body.
  • Fear and worry as the result of stress.
  • Body language; stress versus calm
  • Why not just sleep? The benefits of deep relaxation over sleep.
  • Where does all the stress come from?

Everyone experiences stress differently, and these workshops help each attendee understand their own stress triggers and thresholds, and their own best method or technique to cope with stressful situations, and combat feelings of anxiety or overload.

The workshop shows how to develop the ability to practice on one's own at home.

The workshops give the participants a safe space to discuss their own experiences of stress.

The workshop covers the effects of stress and highlights the fact that some things that may be going on in a teenager’s life could be as a result of undiagnosed stress.

The workshop demystifies stress, and how to combat it.
